The Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M) is a public university founded in 1989. Its main objective is to provide specialized training in Law, Social Sciences and Engineering, as well as becoming a major European Research Center. In addition, UC3M pursues the creation of an innovative university and tries to offer a university model based on a philosophy oriented towards quality. In this sense, modern, flexible and multidisciplinary curricula have been designed to meet the scientific and technological needs of modern society. As for the training area, UC3M was the first in Spain to fully comply with the requirements of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) (Bologna Process) and offers studies in most scientific disciplines.
UC3M is located in the southern metropolitan area of Madrid and is made up of 1,971 teachers, 697 administrative, 2 Faculties, 1 Technical School, 1 Graduate School and 1 Doctoral School in 4 Campuses (Leganés, Getafe, Puerta de Toledo-Madrid and Colmenarejo), 29 three-year degree courses, 84 master's degrees, 19 doctorates, 1 Science & Technology Park - Leganés Tecnológico and 5 research centers.
The Intelligent Systems Lab research group (LSI, abbreviated to Spanish: Laboratorio de Sistemas Inteligentes) is involved in this Doctoral Course. It was founded in 2000 to conduct multidisciplinary research and development in the field of advanced applications of perception and autonomous systems. Members of LSI have been researching topics related to intelligent vehicles for over 20 years. In this period, different systems have been developed in the field of perception technologies and intelligent systems. Research topics include artificial vision systems, intelligent transport systems, autonomous systems, data merging and more. Currently, the laboratory has several research platforms to be used in the program, which includes two autonomous electric vehicles, a smart car Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and several drones. The LSI group focuses on providing advanced technologies in different sectors, in which group members are always involved in a practical vision, testing new algorithms on their research platforms in scenarios and real-life conditions.
